The birds chipping, the leaves rustling
Floorboards creaking, doors closing
Shhhhhhhhhhh the weans still sleeping
Dogs barking, chatting and planning all happening below

Wait a bit longer, listen a bit closer,
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrating they clean the fire pan
Slowly and surely the fire is built
Slowly and surely the house wakens up

KNOCK KNOCK on the door
I want to play
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh can we go a walk then
please papa please
I'll get ur paper, yeah give me 10 minutes

The dog runs around,
Barking and growling
Get up get up he wants his walk
WOOF WOOF oh here we go
Onto the bed, woof woof
Onto the floor woof woof
No more hiding its time to get up

Washed and dressed its time to go, out the back door, and up through the garden
Watch that wire, right jump o'er the burn,, right lets get walkin ,,,,, many a mile to go now, over the road, which Mary once rode, only ever once as our fair queen.
Down the brae now, oh look at the hoose, it's amazing the day, the sundancing on it's panes. Jump that wee burn lass, oh look there's some taddies,, better leave them alone,, I want me tea.

O'er and o'er we go, brae's and burns alike, the trees either side, for miles behind are miles no before. A corner a head, another burn to jump,, oh yeah we're nearly there, the dog's off ahead. Round the corner we go, the trees disappear, out in front the fields role on, through their ups and downs u can hear the water rush. The danger and the calm only inches apart,, but further up the burn the deep baths appear, the dog, the sheep, the weans, the feet, all bathed to heal, cleanse and play.

A day wae the minty's, a day o fun, running and jumping, laughing and crying, always to end with the trek back home,, the same road, the same hills and burns, but now the heart is sad, the feet are tired, the tummy is empty, but ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh back home a big pot of broth, to warm the bones and merry the heart .
